Complications of the sperm donation procedure
There are several possible complications that may occur as a result of undergoing sperm donation treatment. The main complication of treatment is the risk of failure. However, the complication that causes the couple most concern is the possibility of using the wrong semen sample.
Additional complications include the risk of infection. When fertility drugs are used to stimulate the ovaries some women experience mild unpleasant symptoms such as hot flushes, depression, headache etc. These are normally short lived and are no cause for concern. Despite careful monitoring a small number of women will develop ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in stimulated cycles, and multiple pregnancy.
